When he was four years old, Manchester City
fan Idris developed a rare form of bone cancer which resulted in him
undergoing six courses of chemotherapy and the loss of his right leg.
Over the last two years, Idris has been part of City in the Community's
disability programme and as a reward for his attitude and commitment,
he was given a memorable experience with the help of the Make A Wish Foundation.
The surprise involved the 11-year-old receiving a personal message
from Vincent Kompany during a special assembly at his school, and an
invitation to Man City's training ground to play with Sergio Aguero and
Fernandinho and to meet with the rest of the first-team squad.
And as a last surprise, Idris, now 11, received a new away kit and
was asked to be a mascot for the match with Crystal Palace at the Etihad
Stadium.
"I was so excited when Vincent Kompany invited me to training, I
couldn't believe he was talking to me!" he said. "Playing football with
Sergio Aguero, meeting the whole team and walking out at the Etihad was a
dream come true, it's been amazing."
City in the Community and Make A Wish teamed up for the special treat as part of their 3oth anniversary celebrations.
