HEALTH:Is Watermelon Good for You?

It’s pretty safe to assume that when something is a fruit, it has some kind of health benefit. But people seem to be super confused when it comes to watermelon. In July alone, there have been more than 12,000 searches for “is watermelon good for you?” according to Google data. 

That’s a lot of people confused by this melon, so we reached out to dietitians to get some clarification. And we've got good news.
According to registered dietitian Sonya Angelone, a spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, watermelon is packed with all kinds of good-for-you-nutrients including the antioxidant lycopene (which is great for your heart and bones). The more red your watermelon, the more antioxidants it contains, Angelone says, so it’s better to opt for a ripe watermelon over its almost, but not quite as sweet pink version.It also contains the amino acid citruline, which is good for your blood flow, Angelone says.The good stuff doesn’t end there: Watermelon is a great source of vitamins A and D, which is great for your skin and hair, points out Julie Upton, M.S., R.D., cofounder of the nutrition website Appetite for Health. Not only that, it actually can help you stay hydrated—92 percent of the fruit is water, says Upton.And it’s a low-cal snack: two cups of diced watermelon has just 80 calories.While we tend to assume watermelon is high in sugar since it’s so sweet, it actually has less sugar per serving than a banana, says Angelone. (A cup of diced watermelon has about nine grams of sugar, while a medium banana has about 14 grams of sugar.)So…is watermelon good for you? Yup. Carry on with your summer barbecues.

UNN 2016/17 ADMISSION SCREENING APPLICATION ADVERT
This is to inform all prospective students of University of Nigeria, Nsukka who selected her as their University of First Choice in the 2016 UTME and scored 200 and above that the Admission screening application form is available now.
The portal for registration opens on Tuesday 12^th July 2016 and closes on Tuesday July 19^th, 2016.
To register, follow the steps outlined below.

1. Log in to the University Portal- unnportal.unn.edu.ng
2. Click on Prospective students.
3. Click on Online application
4. Click on ‘Click to Apply’ under 2016/17 Admission Screening Application
5. Enter your JAMB Registration Number.
6. Select your payment mode (Generate Remita Retrieval Reference Number to pay at any bank or simply pay with your bank ATM card).
7. Return to the portal and enter your JAMB Registration number again.
8. Proceed with the completion of the form.
9. Correctly enter your O-Level results.
10. Upload CLEAR COPIES of all necessary credentials.
11. Confirm your entries.
12. Submit your application.
13. Print out your acknowledgement slip.
14. Await the announcement from the University.
