(KingsleyGoogleInfo) Lagos State Government holds quiz competition for adult learners

The Lagos State Government, through the Agency for Mass Education, last week, organised a quiz competition for Adult learners of its literacy programme at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa.

The competition, which was in Yoruba and English, attracted participants from different centres in all the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas across the State.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh commended the efforts of the learners in striving to become literate as well as the facilitators for their patience, support and commitment to the programme.

Bank-Olemoh stated that the annual quiz competition was designed to motivate both learners and their facilitators, adding that past editions of the competition had helped in boosting the egos of participants as well as encouraged other adult learners to join the literacy programme in Lagos State.

The Special Adviser, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Dr. Shamsideen Allisson, appreciated all stakeholders for their support in promoting the literacy status of the State.

He said: “I believe this competition will allow for healthy rivalry among the learners and encourage them to be more focused, more determined and eventually become enlightened citizens. It will also create awareness and sensitize the populace on the activities of the Agency and exhibit the achievements of the Agency in literacy education delivery.

In her remarks, the Director of the Agency, Mrs. Oluwakemi Kalesanwo implored the learners to take good advantage of the opportunity given to them and inform other people in their community who have not registered but may be interested in the Adult Literacy programme.

She equally used the opportunity to commend Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for investing massively in the Education Sector of the State.

The first winner for the Yoruba category was Abayomi Wosila from Agege LG; while Rasheed Oyelumade, Ikeja LG and Obadare Nike, Ifelodun LCDA came second and third respectively.

For the English category, Amodu Hassanat from Apapa LG came first, while Mojisola Oluwakemi Taiwo, Badagry LG and Yusuff Aminat, Ibeju Lekki LCDA came second and third respectively.
Other contestants were also given consolation prizes, while teachers of the winners were also rewarded with different prizes at the event in appreciation of their efforts.
